Jason Liu is a Developer Experience Engineer on the Codex team at OpenAI, where he focuses on helping builders create practical AI systems and workflows. He is best known as the creator of Instructor, a widely used open-source Python library for structured LLM outputs using Pydantic validation, retries, and schema-driven extraction. Jason has more than 10 years of experience building AI systems at scale, including prior work as a Staff Machine Learning Engineer at Stitch Fix and earlier roles connected to Meta/Facebook and NYU. His work centers on applied AI, structured outputs, RAG, agents, evaluations, coding agents, and developer adoption.
